Taking Medicine to a Whole New Level Can Become a Unifying Goal for Municipalities and Business, Alona Lebedieva

A new shower room appeared in the department of surgery in Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No.1 owing to Alona Lebedieva Aurum Charity Fund, which furnished it completely: water pipes were replaced, walls and floors were faced with ceramic tiles, 3 shower cabins and a bathroom were installed.

“Now, children who undergo scheduled treatment and recover after surgery will be able to refresh themselves in pleasant conditions. Our department of surgery is designed for 30 children. Certainly, there are also parents with their children. The shower is absolutely necessary. Alona Lebedieva Charity Fund “Aurum” has already renovated the children’s ward in our department, replaced windows and entrance doors, plastered walls and the ceiling, replaced the daylight lamps, laid a new linoleum, installed a washbasin and purchased 4 new functional beds. This is a significant help for us,” said the head of the department of surgery Svetlana Brahinskaya.

According to Alona Lebedieva, the founder of the charity fund, healthcare is closely interrelated with other sectors and it is obvious for everybody that it is quite difficult to develop medicine at the proper level for the country with the current low level of GDP. It is chronically underfunded.

“Today much attention is paid to the creation of a family medicine system in the media and it is good. However, the question of the need for urgent modernization of the material and technical base of medical institutions in Ukraine is not brought up at the proper level. Of course, to solve it serious investments are needed and local budgets cannot provide them to the extent required. Charity support by business representatives is actually one of the real tools for solving underfunding. The ultimate goal is important – we need to take medicine in Ukraine to a whole new level, and this goal can become unifying for municipalities and businesses,” noted Alona Lebedieva.
